HDR Photography

Friday, January 15th, 2010

I didn’t know much about High Dynamic Range type of photography and was glad to learn through the picture links below. The surrealistic, hyper saturation of color may not be for everyone but I’m pretty fascinated how a photo can look more like an illustration with this method.

What first alerted me to HDR was this article about Joe DeGregorio’s photos. I really did think this was an illustration. Since I’m into trompe l’oeil art, I get a kick out of when I get tromped…..

Finally, there’s more to see on Abduzeedo, and there are a lot of tutorials out there but these two had some good fundamental info: Ultimate guide to HDR photography and a bit more technical tutorial in Photoshop.

I was looking for some music with reference to High Definition to Kick-Start the weekend but found this instead, High Speed, one of my favorite songs by Coldplay. This demo video was directed by Jesse Scott when he was in Portland. I could have sworn it was Knoxville with the pedestrian skywalk and the fountain could have been one at World’s Fair Park. Since my son is interested in film, he may like this and he is even looking at a school in Portland. Well done!

Waves

Friday, July 31st, 2009

We’re getting ready to head to the beach. I’ll be taking work along, unfortunately, as I had a hard drive crash and have to reformat all our new images for casart coverings, coming out this fall. Fortunately I’m almost done.

Hey, I’m wondering if anyone else out there got the Shankar, Happy Birthday virus timed to go off on July 25th — his birthday? It’s an old one but attached itself to my Word documents on my Mac and they became corrupted when I got an infected virus from my former marketing folks’ attachments. Fortunately, I have a Mac so even though it was a pain, it was easily fixed. I wonder about PC’s, however, from where it originated.

When I saw these photographs sent to me in an email, I just had to post. Who knew waves could be so beautiful. I just try not to get caught in ones like these. Check out the photographer, Clark Little‘s, Shorebreak Art book.  Jack Johnson has written the forward, so Friday’s Kick Start the Weekend music at the end is fitting. I love the Led Zeppelin addition at the end of his song.

This photographer is from Oahu, but he is gaining international fame.
He’s a surfer himself and often gets wiped out just getting the shot, and you can see why!
These incredible images of waves were taken by the number one photographer of surf… Clark Little.
He has dedicated his life to photographing the waves and has published a selection of the best images of his career. He captures magical moments inside the “tube,” as surfers say.

Cherry Blossoms

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008

If you’ve lived in the DC area for more than 21 years, why would ya be crazy enough to brave the crowds and visit the Cherry Blossoms at their peak blooming season around the Tidal Basin — we all know what they look like? Good question. I try my best to avoid crowds and we have beautiful cherry blossoms on my street but I was inspired by this time last year, when my father passed away on April 2nd. I wanted to enjoy nature in its glorious abundance and take some lovely photos to document the moment. I noticed, however, I concentrated on the colors and the blossoms themselves, while everyone else seemed to be photographing each other and their neighbor with the cherry blossoms as a backdrop.

My husband and I lucked out in that we got to experience two events for our efforts. The annual kite flying festival around The Washington Memorial was also taking place. This and the cherry blossoms were pretty spectacular — all worth the effort of fighting the hoards of people, which I was pretty amazed by, afterall. It was an artistic venture inspired by family. We finally made it to Chinatown for a well deserved respite.

These photos capturing Nature’s beauty bring me peace as I travel back to New Orleans for a family reunion. I have the season’s renewal on my mind.

Everyday Photos?

Friday, March 14th, 2008

These images are of things I see everyday but here, they are captured in an unusual, artistic way. If I or you had taken these photos they might be composed differently because art is viewed in the mind’s eye with individual perspective. These were taken by my teenage son Jackson who has quite an eye and talent for photography. The potential for art is everywhere and everyday. He continues to inspire me.
