    The boys are back! It’s hard to find time to post, especially after completing two projects in the last two weeks, traveling and trying to get a new product line started. Their schedules or lack there of have set me behind. Consequently, I’m using some of Jackson’s amazing artwork to post. These pots of his were featured in the student gallery exhibit during the final weekend of his school. We’re trying to get him to throw an entire set for us. I really like their coloration and design and I appreciate how difficult they were to create.

    &…Looking Back

    I just received the latest issue of my high school alumni magazine and there is an article mentioning most all of my early art teachers. It’s so nice to see them together getting the recognition they deserve and for me to reflect on how important they were in my life. Mrs. Fitzpatrick (grammar school), Mrs. Timmerick and Mrs. Boone (middle and high school)  were my main teachers and each had different teaching styles and talents but their influence was a major impact on me wanting to be an artist.     Art is Therapy

    While watching the news tonight, I was struck by how difficult it has been for the survivors of China’s massive earthquake — especially the children. I believe art can be used in therapy to lesson the blow of physical and psychological trauma. In fact the news showed clips of mental health workers helping the surviving Chinese kids in shelters describe their fears and experience during the earthquake by drawing. Art therapy is based on the principle that traumatic experience is stored in the memory as an image. Drawing the image helps process the memory cognitively and lessens the trauma to help resolve it.
