\"Slayton<\/a><\/p>\n

Who would guess you’d find art while looking at the real estate section? It’s not surprising since a lot of the art that I do is for the home, but this art is about architecture. The Slayton House is for sale in DC. It’s one of the few (only three) residential homes designed by the famous architect, I. M. Pei<\/a>, back in 1958. It’s currently owned by Dan Snyder, the owner of the Redskins football team, but it can be yours for a cool $4 + million.<\/p>\n

I find its modern architecture has stood the test of time, even with the unusual triple barrel-vaulted arches, but take a virtual tour <\/a>yourself. What’s interesting to me is that one of my other favorite contemporary architects, Hugh Newell Jacobsen<\/a> also worked on the house — twice — by the previous owner and the current.<\/p>\n

According to this article in the Washington Post<\/a>, Mr. Snyder learned about the house when he discovered it in a book that he purchased at a flea market. Fascinating that he would then purchase and set out to restore the house to Pei’s original vision and acquire all the original documentation. He was its historical preservationist and little did I know that he has a degree in industrial design. I don’t know a lot about football but I appreciate his efforts now all the more.<\/p>\n

I also like this Chuck Close<\/a> piece, as I have posted that I like this painter but I don’t think this is part of the package. Drats!<\/p>\n
