There’s art in performing and talent in performing well, as my friend Joe Wiegand does impersonating Teddy Roosevelt. We saw him during a live performance on President’s Day, February 18, 2007 at the Lyceum in Alexandria, VA. In the spirit of Independence Day and since he’s on tour celebrating T.R.’s 150th birthday, I thought I’d post this clip.<\/p>\n

Joe does such an amazing job portraying T.R., not only in appearance but down to his mannerisms and speech inflection. He’s entertaining and humorous and makes learning history — about T.R. and his presidency — fun. I have another movie that he sent from when he was in New Orleans, but I will have to post it, or at least clips from it, when I’m able to figure out how to convert for viewing from a DVD. In the meantime you can check out his website the TeddyRooseveltShow.com<\/a> for his tour<\/a> days. You don’t want to miss him if he’s coming to a city near you!<\/p>\n

One interesting note is when I was visiting my family in New Orleans last April<\/a>, I discovered that our neighbors with whom we visited were related to Louisiana Governor, John Parker (1920 – 19424), with whom T.R. signed a treaty to save wetlands and he also helped establish Louisiana’s first Wildlife and Fisheries Commission, from which the state’s Department of Conservation was created in 1918. Small world…<\/p>\n

Because I missed viewing the fireworks at our usual spot on the Potomac this year, we’ll have another chance as Alexandria puts on it’s fireworks display this Saturday…Happy Weekend!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
