{"id":443,"date":"2008-10-31T08:41:26","date_gmt":"2008-10-31T12:41:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ashley-spencer.com\/ArtIsEverywhere\/?p=443"},"modified":"2015-12-27T21:54:05","modified_gmt":"2015-12-28T02:54:05","slug":"a-couple-exhibits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ashley-spencer.com\/ArtIsEverywhere\/2008\/10\/a-couple-exhibits\/","title":{"rendered":"A couple exhibits"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Happy Halloween!<\/p>\n<p>After all the hubbub is over, here are a couple of fall art exhibits worth visiting:<\/p>\n<p>1) <a title=\"Pompeii and the Roman Villa\/NGA\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nga.gov\/exhibitions\/pompeiiinfo.shtm\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Pompeii and the Roman Villa<\/em><\/a>, National Gallery of Art, through March 22, 2009<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ashley-spencer.com\/ArtIsEverywhere\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/2008\/10\/264-006.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-444\" title=\"Pompeii and the Roman Villa, National Gallery of Art\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ashley-spencer.com\/ArtIsEverywhere\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/2008\/10\/264-006.jpg\" alt=\"Pompeii and the Roman Villa, National Gallery of Art\" width=\"251\" height=\"263\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here are two background stories in the <em>Washington Post<\/em>, worth reading: <a title=\"Day of Wrath by Paul Richard, Washington Post\" href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/article\/2008\/10\/17\/AR2008101700549.html\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Day of Wrath<\/em><\/a> and coincidentally on the same day, <a title=\"Villas Come Alive by Susan Davidson, Washington Post\" href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/article\/2008\/10\/17\/AR2008101701332.html\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Villas Come Alive 2,000 Years After Vesuvius<\/em><\/a> (in the Travel Section). I have always liked the frescoes at Stabiae. I am bewildered how they survived the destruction at Pompeii. The recreation of the Villa San Marco is just incredible. Makes me want to go visit NOW.  Well, that&#8217;s a fantasy but it&#8217;s on my list. Italy is one of my favorite countries so I&#8217;m always looking for an excuse to get back there.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ashley-spencer.com\/ArtIsEverywhere\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/2008\/10\/ph2008101701340.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-447\" title=\"Frescoes at Stabiae\/ National Museum of Archaeology\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ashley-spencer.com\/ArtIsEverywhere\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/2008\/10\/ph2008101701340.jpg\" alt=\"Frescoes at Stabiae\/ National Museum of Archaeology\" width=\"178\" height=\"270\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>2) <a title=\"Georgia O'Keefe and Ansel Adams\/Washington Post Review\" href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/article\/2008\/10\/24\/AR2008102400875.html\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Georgia O&#8217;Keefe and Ansel Adams: Natural Affinities<\/em><\/a>, Smithsonian American Art Museum, through January 4, 2009. I thought this was a very cool premise for an exhibit. I had never thought to really compare these two artists before but these pictures make the argument. I really like their work:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ashley-spencer.com\/ArtIsEverywhere\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/2008\/10\/ph2008102400879.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-445\" title=\"Ansel Adams\\' Chapel Near Hernandex, New Mexico, David H. It actually looks pretty darn interesting but I bet it&#8217;s sold out.
