Sometimes you get an answer when you’re not expecting it. I received an email out of the blue alerting me to the latest with Dean Bracy, the artist who started the Dollar Project, who I wrote about back in 2009<\/a>. I had asked then if anyone knew more information about the project that he started in 2000, to please let me know. Jim Lovette of The Monarch Watch<\/a> came across my initial post and emailed with an update. I’m so glad he did.<\/p>\n

He said Dean stops by the Monarch Watch’s conservation organization, which tracks monarch butterflies, a few times a year. The monarch butterfly happens to be one of his subjects. (I love butterflies<\/a>.) He also sent me a website run by Dean’s brother, Where Did the Dollar Go<\/a>, which gives an update about all the postcards and what was the response <\/a>as well as the details about how the project was started<\/a>. Interesting to me that Dean’s inspiration was Chuck Close<\/a>, who’s work I am also inspired by, so I can relate.<\/p>\n

The hope is that one day Dean will be able to display all the years of artwork he had created as a part of what just started with a idea and a dollar. You may be interested in purchasing some of his other artwork<\/a> to help him out.<\/p>\n
