If you&#8217;ve collected a lot of pennies over the years like I have, here&#8217;s a way. Try gluing to the floor to get that shiny new look.<\/p>\n<p>Mel Angst, of the\u00a0 <a title=\"Daily Mail\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-2228162\/PICTURES-Tattoo-artist-glues-250-000-pennies-floor-new-gallery-creative-twist.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Artisan tattoo and coffee gallery<\/a> in Garfield, Pennsylvania, decided to take on this task and glued nearly 250,000 pennies. I think it came out stunning.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ashley-spencer.com\/ArtIsEverywhere\/2013\/01\/old-pennies-made-new\/pennies-for-art_dailyuk\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5587\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5587\" alt=\"Penny floor art, seen on Art Is Everywhere\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ashley-spencer.com\/ArtIsEverywhere\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/Pennies-for-art_DailyUK.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"392\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ashley-spencer.com\/ArtIsEverywhere\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/Pennies-for-art_DailyUK.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.ashley-spencer.com\/ArtIsEverywhere\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/Pennies-for-art_DailyUK-300x235.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Speaking of pennies, an interesting thing happened to me over the holidays. <a title=\"Carl Myers\" href=\"http:\/\/www.carljmyers.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Carl Myers<\/a>, the artist who created the <a title=\"Previous Tropical Getaway post\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ashley-spencer.com\/ArtIsEverywhere\/2012\/02\/tropical-getaway\/\" target=\"_blank\">Penny Portrait in my Panama post<\/a>, contacted me. He had not taken pictures of the installation in the Trump Tower and wanted to know if he could use mine to update <a title=\"Carl Myers\" href=\"http:\/\/www.carljmyers.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">his website.<\/a> Sure! I felt like they were his anyway. I had just had the pictures but didn&#8217;t create the art and the picture wouldn&#8217;t exist without his spectacular artwork.<\/p>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><em>&#8220;I am the artist who made the &#8216;penny art&#8217; in Panama that you showcased on your blog, and I have been searching for images of the installed pieces. Imagine my surprise when I found your blog with the photos!&#8221;<\/em><\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><\/div>\n<div>It always surprises me who may be reading my blog and responses like keep me writing it.<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ashley-spencer.com\/ArtIsEverywhere\/2012\/02\/tropical-getaway\/292-penny-close_aie\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4732\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4732\" alt=\"292-penny-close_Art Is Everywhere\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ashley-spencer.com\/ArtIsEverywhere\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/292-penny-close_AIE.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"373\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ashley-spencer.com\/ArtIsEverywhere\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/292-penny-close_AIE.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.ashley-spencer.com\/ArtIsEverywhere\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/292-penny-close_AIE-300x223.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Floor or face, it takes a lot pennies and saving them for a rainy day but what can be created is worth the wait and work. Carl was kind in the email exchange to give me a little insight into his work. I hope he doesn&#8217;t mind me posting here, for it&#8217;s quite a feat to think of how many pennies were needed and then used. <a title=\"Carl Myers\" href=\"http:\/\/www.carljmyers.com\/art\/objects\/mosaics\" target=\"_blank\">Each has a hole drilled into the top<\/a> and is fixed with a protruding nail.<\/p>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><em>&#8220;I laughed when I thought of saving all of those pennies..Truth is&#8230;obtaining new pennies in large quantities was no easy task. My dear friends at my bank in Miami helped me&#8230;(15,000 coins!) the &#8216;fun&#8217; continued getting them out of the US, through airport security, and here to Guatemala to fabricate the pieces. I guess it&#8217;s obvious I&#8217;m very passionate about this stuff.&#8221;<\/em><\/div>\n<p>The other coincidental discovery was that Carl attended the University of Virginia, where my oldest son went. Small world, indeed, to have so many newly discovered connections through blog posts. You know what they say about, &#8220;find a penny, pick it up; one day you&#8217;ll have good luck.&#8221; I guess the new year (and 2013, with unlucky 13 at that), is starting off right in finding
