{"id":5974,"date":"2013-06-27T07:07:17","date_gmt":"2013-06-27T11:07:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ashley-spencer.com\/ArtIsEverywhere\/?p=5974"},"modified":"2015-12-26T23:04:45","modified_gmt":"2015-12-27T04:04:45","slug":"something-to-see-in-nola","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ashley-spencer.com\/ArtIsEverywhere\/2013\/06\/something-to-see-in-nola\/","title":{"rendered":"Something to &#8220;See&#8221; in NOLA?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Notices of exhibits show up in my alerts but my mother also forwards from New Orleans, since she&#8217;s there and sees it first.<\/p>\n<p>This one &#8220;caught my eye&#8221; and would be one I&#8217;d like to see, <a title=\"Doug MacCash - Times Picayune\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nola.com\/arts\/index.ssf\/2013\/05\/magnetic_yin_and_yang_murals_b.html\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Self Portrait<\/em><\/a> of and by 73 year old artist Pat Steir at the <a title=\"Newcomb Art Gallery\" href=\"http:\/\/www.newcombartgallery.tulane.edu\/currentex_new.html\" target=\"_blank\">Newcomb Art Gallery.<\/a> Unfortunately, I was late in posting and the exhibit has already gone but worth taking a look at and reading more via this <a title=\"Doug MacCash - Times Picayune\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nola.com\/arts\/index.ssf\/2013\/05\/magnetic_yin_and_yang_murals_b.html\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Times Picayune<\/em> link<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ashley-spencer.com\/ArtIsEverywhere\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/self-portrait_Pat-Steir.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5975\" alt=\"self portrait_Pat Steir on Art Is Everywhere\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ashley-spencer.com\/ArtIsEverywhere\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/self-portrait_Pat-Steir.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ashley-spencer.com\/ArtIsEverywhere\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/self-portrait_Pat-Steir.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.ashley-spencer.com\/ArtIsEverywhere\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/self-portrait_Pat-Steir-300x180.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not too sure about this second one being my cup of tea but I find the <a title=\"Doug MacCash - Times Picayune\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nola.com\/arts\/index.ssf\/2013\/06\/artist_rashaad_newsome_brings.html\" target=\"_blank\">Rashaad Newsome&#8217;s premise<\/a> regarding heraldry and his visual perspective on 21st century pop culture in his artwork interesting. <em>King of Arms<\/em> is at the <a title=\"New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA)\" href=\"http:\/\/noma.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">New Orleans Museum of Art<\/a> (<a title=\"Previous posts on NOMA, New Orleans Museum of Art\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ashley-spencer.com\/ArtIsEverywhere\/?s=new+orleans+museum+of+art\" target=\"_blank\">one of my favorite places<\/a>), June 21 &#8211; September 21. So you&#8217;ve got time to explore and listen to the Baroque choral music combined with rap that accompanies his pieces.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ashley-spencer.com\/ArtIsEverywhere\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Rashaad-Newsome_Doug-MacCash-photo.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5976\" alt=\"Rashaad Newsome_Doug MacCash photo on Art Is Everyhwere\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ashley-spencer.com\/ArtIsEverywhere\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Rashaad-Newsome_Doug-MacCash-photo.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"295\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ashley-spencer.com\/ArtIsEverywhere\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Rashaad-Newsome_Doug-MacCash-photo.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.ashley-spencer.com\/ArtIsEverywhere\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Rashaad-Newsome_Doug-MacCash-photo-300x177.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>When I first saw this photo, I immediately thought of the <a title=\"Previous post on Mardi Gras Indians\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ashley-spencer.com\/ArtIsEverywhere\/2011\/03\/mardi-gras-costumes-get-a-copyright\/\" target=\"_blank\">Mardi Gras Indians<\/a> and the bling they use for their most bedazzling costumes. I also thought of the type of gilding that takes place in iconic portraiture for halos and artwork <a title=\"Previous post on church artwork\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ashley-spencer.com\/ArtIsEverywhere\/2008\/12\/some-church-art\/\" target=\"_blank\">mainly for churches<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Art is Everywhere mentions two exhibitions to see in New Orleans &#8212;
