Decorating Trends 2009

The decorating trends for 2009, as referenced from the Staten Island Advance are below:

• Bright lighting and vibrant colors.

• Fuchsia Red, Salmon Rose, Palace Blue, Lavender, Rose Dust and Vibrant Green predicted to be popular by the Pantone Color Institute.

• Pendant lights, chandeliers with more arms and wall mounted lighting.

• Wall murals are continuing to be in high demand. They offer ways to easily transform décor.

• Older patterns are being updated with new, contemporary pop.

• Furniture is functional, inviting and comfortable, as folks look for ways to entertain without going out.

• Wood and the look of natural finishes and those that mimic them are being used on walls and ceilings as well as floors.

• Metallics and surfaces with sheen remain popular.

• Styles of elegance, ecclectic and practicality are taking over as well as seamless transitions of bringing the outdoors inside.

I'm an artist, wife and mother of two boys. I started my illustration business, The Occasional Palette over 35 years ago, when my oldest son was an infant. Once my children were in school, I began painting decorative, faux finishes and murals through my second business, Casart, now over 30 years old. My third business, Casart Coverings, is a springboard from my second. To add cozy intimate illumination which accents a person’s home’s existing furnishings, wrought iron candle chandeliers come up with a stunning style statement. A chandelier shade can increase this particular elegant supplement to your home.
