What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

As a WordPress site, we use third party plugins for our site to be optimized and function properly. In addition,  we send your Web browser a “cookie,” (as described in the above section) which is a small data file that’s stored on your hard drive, to help us provide you with customized services and make it easier for you to navigate our website.  We do not use cookies to retrieve personal information from your computer.

We use Constant Contact as our email client and contact database for eNewsletters and some off-website communication. When an inquiry is sent to us through our contact form or if you sign up to receive our eNewsletter that offers promotional discounts for site users, this information gets recorded in Constant Contact. We take your security as well as the security of our website with extreme seriousness, which is why we have taken the extra measures to use HTTPS on our blog and product websites. This is indicative of a secure url domain with a security certificate.
