Empire State Building

Look up! The ceiling murals of the Empire State Building’s Lobby are being restored. Bill Mensching and Jeff Greene of EverGreene Architectural Arts are at it again. I first read about their work when I discovered who was doing the mural restoration at the US Capitol. This company is inspirational — a decorative finisher’s dream job, especially one like me who loves art history and restoration. Afterall, I was headed down that museum track of exhibition design long before life chose a different path. I’m certainly happy with what I’m doing but I constantly look for ways to combine art history with actual art production.

I shouldn’t alert you to the fact that Greene’s company even has a hand painted wallpaper line now, but I’m still pretty admiring of his work. Casart is different in that it’s not traditional wallpaper but a wallcovering that is repositionable, removable and reusable – like a slipcover for your walls. Because is high-end, hotel-quality vinyl (commercial grade/Type II Class A), and washable with mild soap and water, it is highly sustainable and durable, unlike traditional wallpaper. And, removing it is a snap. Don’t try that with regular wallpaper. What a pain. Anyone who’s had it in their home, like the 70’s metallic graphic that we were left with in our kitchen, will know what a workout it is to remove. At casart coverings, we’re trying to avoid that hassle and offer convenience and flexibility for customers. Check out our casartblog and you can see some ideas for yourself. Oh, and you don’t have to go through through trade showrooms to get ours. It’s sold directly to consumers online.

I'm an artist, wife and mother of two boys. I started my illustration business, The Occasional Palette over 35 years ago, when my oldest son was an infant. Once my children were in school, I began painting decorative, faux finishes and murals through my second business, Casart, now over 30 years old. My third business, Casart Coverings, is a springboard from my second.
