Artful Abundance of Summer Produce

This is pretty remarkable and makes me think that American grocery stores should do similar displays to what this supermarket in Israel is doing. What a way to grab people’s attention, make them stop and see the produce and even purchase more items for appreciating the effort of such an artful display. This makes the thought of this season’s summer produce I would get more appealing than what you typically see here and I doubt much would be left to waste or wither on the vine, so to speak. This type of display would make everyday grocery shopping actually fun.

(Unfortunately, I don’t have the original source for these images, as it was sent to me in email — but how gorgeous!)

OK, Whole Foods does do something similar to this in their vegetable section — at least here in Virginia

I'm an artist, wife and mother of two boys. I started my illustration business, The Occasional Palette over 35 years ago, when my oldest son was an infant. Once my children were in school, I began painting decorative, faux finishes and murals through my second business, Casart, now over 30 years old. My third business, Casart Coverings, is a springboard from my second. I got that email too and wondered about it, because the signs in the first picture are in Swedish, and several of the others have signs in English and look to be pictures of fair exhibits. One has a sign for the “National Vegetable Society,” which is a British organization. One says “Do the Puyallup.” I googled Puyallup and found that there’s a town in Washington state called Puyallup.

All of that made me even more curious, so I looked around further and finally found what might be the origin of the pictures. It has links to where the pictures originally came from. I thought you might be interested, since you said you didn’t know where they came from.

Regardless of where they came from, they are beautiful pictures. That butterfly is amazing. And the third picture (the one with the Z in the top row of veggies) is from a real supermarket in Oregon. Which almost makes me want to move to Oregon.

Thanks so much! I think you are right and just goes to show you how news can get changed when passed from one person to the next. The email I received suggested they were all from one place. Knowing they are from different locations makes me more awestruck that this type of artful display has a broad use and appeal. Loved the “Z” one and that Superbowl Snack Stadium on Twistedsifter is really incredible. I appreciate you sending this info.
