Car Glass & Cards

Well, inevitably with boys, accidents will happen. Our older son was weed whacking our swath of city grass and just as I was telling him to watch out for my car, POP, a rock hit the passenger front window. Yep, it’s a bit of a hassle, considering I couldn’t drive with a big, black bag blocking my side view and since we’ve had it replaced yesterday, it has to be replaced again because the window regulators (plastic holders) cracked fully after the installation. What are ya gonna do? Life just deals you good and bad situations sometimes.

So, one has to make the best of the situation. I thought the cracked car glass looked pretty cool. When I took this picture, in front of the lilies that fell from a funeral wreath for a friend’s father that was put in my car and the condolence cards that were sent for our cat, the glass reminded me of pools of water — separated droplets still adhered together — shattered while whole. Life imitating art as simultaneous opposites.

I'm an artist, wife and mother of two boys. I started my illustration business, The Occasional Palette over 35 years ago, when my oldest son was an infant. Once my children were in school, I began painting decorative, faux finishes and murals through my second business, Casart, now over 30 years old. My third business, Casart Coverings, is a springboard from my second.
