Ice Cold and Blue — Ice

The theme this week (not that every week has a theme, but the cold, winter-like weather has finally arrived) is “Ice Cold and Blue” — every other day featuring one of these three.

This Ice Festival is an annual event in Harbin, Siberian region of Chinese Manchuria. Temperatures often do not exceed minus 40 degrees. It dates back to 1985 and many teams from around the world participate. Here are some of the incredible creations at this year’s event. (Note: this came to me via an email, so I do not know who to give the original photo and informational credits to, but thank you. If it weren’t for the exceptional bitter cold, I would have liked to be there but prefer viewing from the warm comfort of home.)

At night the site turns into a neon-lit winter wonderland as if it were translucent Bright-Light Legos. There is even a Great Wall slide.

I can’t even imagine the amount of patience required to complete this. Little patience, particularly as I get older, and Raynauds would easily prevented me from even trying.

I'm an artist, wife and mother of two boys. I started my illustration business, The Occasional Palette over 35 years ago, when my oldest son was an infant. Once my children were in school, I began painting decorative, faux finishes and murals through my second business, Casart, now over 30 years old. My third business, Casart Coverings, is a springboard from my second.
