Scrapbooks
As I read in the Washington Post Book World about a new book on Scrapbooking, I was reminded of how this creative pastime is much like a visual diary. As much as moleskin notebooks can be used for sketching and collecting memories, they, as well as other blank-sheet note books, can be used for the visual keepsake of scrapbooking.
There are a whole hosts of sites regarding scrapbooking when doing a search online, but here’s one that seems to be a good collective (no pun intended) place to start: http://www.scrapbooking-directory.com/
And here’s a finished project of a travel scrapbook from Martha Stewart:
Now, I don’t know about you, but I just kinda do this naturally, particularly for photo albums. Mine may not look as nice and neat and I like that it doesn’t, especially when I’m a year behind right now. Sometimes, too perfect is just too perfect. Anyway, it’s a great creative outlet that gets those creative juices flowing and documents your memories for future generations but more importantly, when you want to relive those memories you can through your scrapbook.

How has scrap booking become so popular? In this digital age it hardly seems likely. The art reached its zenith in the late 19th century when the printing press rose to match the Victorians’ zeal to collect. A poor man’s artwork? Democracy at work? Or the attempt to consciously slow down a life much too fast paced?
