Christmas Cards

Lately, there has been a lot of news about how traditional Christmas cards are going by the wayside due to the convenience and affordability of sending them to your address book via email or even Facebook.. We tried to send Christmas cards once, when our kids were wee tots and it just added to the holiday stress, so I’m not a big advocate of sending Christmas cards in general. Of course, we love receiving them and I respond to everyone but just cannot take it on myself. Because I appreciate them, I was interested in this Holidays on Display exhibit at the National Museum of American History. It documents the history of holiday pageantry from cards to parade floats from the 1920’s – 1960’s. A second exhibit, Season’s Greetings, about the sentiment of handmade holiday cards is at the Reynolds Center, a dedicated art gallery documenting America’s artistic heritage at the Archives of American Art, a part of the National Portrait Gallery (Smithsonian Art Museums). Boy, this Santa looks merry!

Coincidentally and adding a bit of credibility to the lack of snail-mail holiday cards, you can email any of these eCards below from the Archives of American Art’s website.

OK, I’ve got a couple more places now to go with the kids and family.

I'm an artist, wife and mother of two boys. I started my illustration business, The Occasional Palette over 35 years ago, when my oldest son was an infant. Once my children were in school, I began painting decorative, faux finishes and murals through my second business, Casart, now over 30 years old. My third business, Casart Coverings, is a springboard from my second.
