Community Mural

I wonder if this butterfly mural is finished since I first discovered it nearly a year ago?

Doing a quick search, yes, indeed it is. This was just one mural of many that was created and painted for the Hobe Sound Mural Project by community volunteers to beautify their neighborhood. The artists researched many butterflies to choose the one they wanted for this mural, which then had trompe l’oeil columns and a visual breakaway depicting an “interior” view of a gallery that pays tribute to the General Foundation of Women’s Clubs volunteer efforts. The butterfly is what caught my eye first, since Butterflies are Everywhere these days. (I recently wrote about the proliferation of butterflies in spring designs on Slipcovers for your walls blog.)

Since I like butterflies, I’ll also mention this bronze hands and butterfly, Taking Flight, sculpture by Doug Roper, which can be seen in San Antonio, TX. It’s pretty remarkable that the artist was able to render the butterfly wings with such delicacy and transparency out of steel.

Here is a small model for the larger scale sculpture.

I'm an artist, wife and mother of two boys. I started my illustration business, The Occasional Palette over 35 years ago, when my oldest son was an infant. Once my children were in school, I began painting decorative, faux finishes and murals through my second business, Casart, now over 30 years old. My third business, Casart Coverings, is a springboard from my second.
