Gabby Goes Giant
What fun the Olympics have been! I’m actually going to miss them. The “Fabulous Five” of the USA Female Gymnastic Team brought it home with gold medals galore. I was equally impressed with our track and swimming stars. There were some phenomenal races, especially the women’s relay — to win it after so many years. It was just as crushing to see one of our runners fall when she was tripped from behind and by an Ethiopian runner who was running for her home country under duress. Sadly, the American runner happened to fall four years before. I wonder if she’ll try again…
However, it seems like the winners are here to stay, literally. Look what just popped up in Virginia Beach, a glorious mural of “Golden Girl /AKA Flying Squirrel,” Gabby Douglas, and well done too by Todd and Eric Lindbergh, of T.A.L.ENT Murals. It took them 4 days to paint it! That’s a record speed, I think. Click here to view the video.
The mural is about 30 feet wide by 8 feet high on the side of AJ Gator’s Sports Bar in their parking lot, if you’d like to see it person.
Here’s an interview with one of the artists:
Evidently, Gabby tweeted, “Wow!!! This is amazing!! #sohonored.” At least sponsorship and licensing hasn’t gone to her head, yet. Her face is worth a lot now and more importantly, worth all the hard work an sacrifices made by her and her parents, particularly her mother. Lesson learned, practice, sacrifice and hard work eventually pay off.
