    Falling Water in the Fall

    December 7, 2009 /

I was able to get away for a little respite with my mother at a wonderful Arts and Craft Style Bed & Breakfast called Lake Pointe Inn in McHenry, Maryland. It happens to be right across the road from Wisp Ski Resort. Good to know if I ever go back to ski. It was snowing flurries while we were there. We were able to take a drive to Frank Lloyd Wright’s architectural masterpiece, Falling Water to tour the grounds. A restful spot to enjoy the setting sun during a winter cocktail when we returned.

    Creating Computer Snowflakes

    December 4, 2009 /

I recently discovered where the the delight of seeing the first snow of the season can be captured on a website. You can make your own snowflakes and add them to the over 8 million that create the backdrop on the home page of SnowDays. When you mouse over each arrow, an individually designed snowflake appears with the creator’s name and location. You can respond to them if you like. Email addresses are not visible and kept confidential. You can type in any location to see the multitudes of snowflakes that were created from within that area and even print them out. What’s fascinating is each snowflake is unique, just…

    Visual Acoustics

    December 2, 2009 /

Visual Acoustics is a new film documentary about the modern architectural photography of Julius Shulman, who died this past summer at age 98. This appears top be an engaging film with the backdrop of the Los Angeles culture, featuring Richard Neutra and Pierre Koenig’s architecture among other connections as Rudolf Schindler, Frank Lloyd Wright, Ed Ruscha, Tom Ford, Frank Gehry and narrated by Dustin Hoffman. I was fascinated how one house, Case Study House No. 22 photographed by Shulman depicted completely different impressions, as described by Philip Kennicott’s Washington Post article, Acoustics honors a master’s modern eye. What I found very ironic was that even with all the striking photography…
