    Mother’s Day Tribute

    It was a working weekend for me and my husband so I didn’t get to spend Mother’s Day as I would like, plus it’s a bittersweet celebration for me for me to remember from 2 years past — just seems like yesterday. Although, I did get to paint a painting in tribute to my mother. It is after one of the camellias in her New Orleans garden. I think it’s name is Cherries Jubilee — how appropriately Southern.     Derby Day

    There's a lot I could say about art regarding The Kentucky Derby, just by association of my family's Kentucky heritage and my very prolific artistic Aunt but the Derby, specifically, is Louisville's sophisticated Mardi Gras — meaning lots of eccentric stuff happens — even with all the upper crust fancy hats to be seen on Derby Day. No matter how you celebrate Derby Day, here's a few things that you could use: 1) A Rose themed centerpiece — better yet, one made of chocolate cake. 2) Bottle art — Woodford Reserve 3) Mint Juleps 4) Burgoo — a type of stew (gumbo can be compared but without the seafood).     Koi

    Well, I missed the fish floundering at the Koi sell-off at the National Arboretum. I would have been there had I owned a backyard pond, like I always wanted. I love these koi and absolutely had no idea that collecting and selling them due to overcrowding was an annual event. They even caught "Big Mama" one of the oldest and largest, three feet long. That must have been that shark-like fish, as the wave rolled by, that scared you from getting too close to the edge.
