Hydropolis

Since I’m cutting my beach trip short and still longing for a little extra time, I thought I’d post about a modern day Atlantis. I recently read about the world’s first underwater hotel, Hydropolis on Lost at E Minor blog. It is due to open to the public later this year in 2009, in Dubai, of course.

While there, check out the post about Kieron Williamson, the six year old prodigy. His paintings show real talent.

I think because he’s able to render with such conceptual realism that he may have more intrinsic, technical ability than the other child phenom, Marla Olmstead, who is now eight. She was “discovered” when she was four years old and her paintings go for $25,000. They have two completely different styles. I’m not saying one is better than the other, but I do have a preference for a more realistic rather than abstract take on art. I appreciate both.

If you want to read about the movie, My Kid Could Paint That, a documentary about her work, here’s more at the Body Creative Network. I’m putting this film on my to see list.

Thinking of kids who inspire me, here’s a shout out to my son, Piers who turns 21 today (no longer a kid)! I can’t believe it. Where did that time go?

I'm an artist, wife and mother of two boys. I started my illustration business, The Occasional Palette over 35 years ago, when my oldest son was an infant. Once my children were in school, I began painting decorative, faux finishes and murals through my second business, Casart, now over 30 years old. My third business, Casart Coverings, is a springboard from my second.
