Get in the Instagram Mural Challenge Number

CNN has a challenge for you. Find murals, take a photo, post on Instagram and then they’ll post a few on their website with the excerpts of stories behind the murals. With over 300 submissions, it must have been hard just to include a few of these. I hope they show more. Click here to see more from CNN.

Here’s their community challenge below. Murals are probably in your neighborhood and if they are an everyday thing that get little notice, then take a photo and submit. Follow CNN on Instagram for the next one. This is a great marketing idea too for their business + you might learn something from the submissions, as I did with this last mural from Bangladesh.

CNN) — We often walk past them without a second thought, but most murals tell a story about the communities in which they live. And yet, as features of our public spaces, they mean something different to each of us when we view them through our own individual filters.

For our first CNN Instagram community assignment we invited followers to photograph murals or street art in their communities and tell us about them. We were thrilled to see more than 300 submissions from all over the world and hear the many stories behind them.

Below are just a few highlights. Check out all of the submissions by searching the #CNNMuralStories tag in Instagram.

I wish I had seen this one while in Rome.

How timely and very well done — not a poster but highly photo realistic of Nelson Mandela.

This says a lot (no pun intended) about oppression and what this statesman and later first president of Bengali was speaking against.

I'm an artist, wife and mother of two boys. I started my illustration business, The Occasional Palette over 35 years ago, when my oldest son was an infant. Once my children were in school, I began painting decorative, faux finishes and murals through my second business, Casart, now over 30 years old. My third business, Casart Coverings, is a springboard from my second.
