Village Murals, Podcasts & Pushing Daisies

This is a follow up to my Mysterious Eyes post. I just stumbled upon this image via Visual Culture and I thought it was pretty cool. The original photo credit goes to JR Art Photography. I haven’t been to Rio favela of Providencia in Rio De Janeiro but there appears to be a lot of Googly eyes there. I can resonate with this lately because I’ve been pushing 16 hour + days for months and feeling a little brain fried, punch drunk and googly eyed — more like bleary eyed myself these days.

I finally got a chance to listen to Rosh and Deans’ Prosperous Artists Podcast from September 17th on How Not to be an Overnight Success. Pretty inspirational and brings a sense of calm to me getting ready to start a new business, by launching a new product line — hopefully in a few weeks. They mentioned me and this blog in profiling one of their creative artists — 2 minute soundbite at the end. Thanks guys. I’ll take the exposure and really do appreciate the mention. I’m pretty honored to be featured. I’ll keep checking back with you all and do that Linkedin thing (heads up)…Networking is helpful and key to being successful — even if it isn’t overnight. One last thing before I plow into more preparation work, thank goodness for Pushing Daisies. I’m a big fan of this innovative and clever TV show on Wednesday night. I’m so glad it was renewed for another season. Rarely has such an artistic show been seen on TV. The story line reminds me of the movie version of James and the Giant Peach, in its slight dark, offbeat approach to death but in this new way, humoristic, intelligent, witty and positive perspective. Having worked in set design, Pushing Daisies’ set is remarkable — an artist’s dream — not in the preparation, necessarily but in the outcome. Here are a few memorable quotes that I liked from this first premier episode, so kudos to the writing too: 1) If I could breathe, I would vomit; 2) Wiggety whack; 3) Suddenly a crazy cat lady doesn’t seem so crazy anymore; and my favorite, 4) Home is a feeling of where you belong. This show brings a bit of necessary diversion in the midst of a hectic, crazy and irrational week.
