I’m always inspired by artists who brave the crowds to create their artwork. It’s something that I do not like to do, but this “plein air,” landscape artist, Michela Mansuino, featured last week in the Washington Post, has managed to not only control her experience with multitudes of onlookers but capture the magic of the cherry blossoms in her paintings. She’s been painting at the same spot for four years. The cherry blossoms are nearly gone now, but the moment they existed is immortalized in this painting. We took a trek to Charlottesville, VA to visit our son Piers, who as president of his fraternity at UVA and was hosting parents during an Open House. We arrived just in time to hear him give his speech. He did a great job with a commanding performance. I was very proud of him for what he has already accomplished. I’m starting to see him as the adult he is and it’s a fulfilling moment in a parent’s life. It brings a whole other dynamic to the relationship. Pamela Anderson
No, not that one, but I bet Pamela Anderson, the talented abstract artist in Milwaukee, WI, gets that reference all the time. Funny though, I never brought it up when I spoke with her recently. We had a nice conversation and realized that we both had a New Orleans connection. She had lived there a few years back and we both confessed that we missed the food.
