A Couple of Exhibits
My Helsinki through May 31st looks intriguing; although, since I’ve been traveling, I’m not sure I’ll be able to see it, except for this weekend. I like the concept of cast off treasures becoming “Everyday Monuments” by Jean Shin as part of the Common Threads exhibit at the Smithsonian American Art Museum. Her “Chance City” comprised of lottery tickets as a House of Cards, changes daily as onlookers walk by it and cards fall. It runs through July 26th.
Lost Mural
A quick story in the Washington Post Magazine showed Urban Murals. I was reminded that sometimes we don’t see them all. Here’s a “lost” or covered one by G. Byron Peck. Personally, I like his mural of Duke Ellington. He also has others around the DC including inside the Metro.
Musical Art Words
I really like this typographical portrait of Thom York by Steve Yee. Good thing my son, who we’re on the long road trip to pick up this weekend, doesn’t read this blog. I think this would make a perfect birthday present. Now, the quest is to find it.
