Poznan
Here are some photos that my husband took at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (also known as COP, Conference of Parties) in Poznan, Poland. This town turned out to be very artsy. A “Christo-like” public-art commentary using figurines to suggest those affected by climate change. Among the contemporary artwork, Poznan maintains its Old World environment and charm. Architecture of the town square clock tower is quite stunning. Everyone comes out to see the goats but heads at the midday hour. Not sure what it all means but some fanciful mural work. Prison Art
Lorton Prison was recently commended for its successful art program at the Workhouse Arts Center. Here’s the link to the story by Amy Orndorff in the Washington Post. Funny that this picture reminds me of the pottery studio at my younger son’s school. Pretty swank. I personally believe that art is therapy and helps one work through their problems. Perhaps that’s why it’s working here. The guy who robbed my next door neighbors some time back went to Lorton Prison. I hope he was in this program. Hex Signs
Thinking of the “Eye” of the [Gustav] Storm and “the evil eye” and “putting a hex on you” sayings, as well as my previous post below, Demystifying Hex Signs, the Colorful Soul of Pennsylvania Dutch Decor, was an interesting article by Mariella Savidge featured in the Washington Post. I like symbols and I have used many in my illustration work as well as my murals. I learned a lot from this article about the meaning of hex signs — typically used for good luck, particularly painted on the side of barns by the Pennsylvania Dutch.
