    Jeffersonian Pavilion

    I learned a little about one of my son’s school this weekend in the Real Estate section of the Washington Post when one of the Jeffersonian Pavilions on the main campus of University of Virginia was featured. Larry Sabato lives in this stately pavilion and was awarded these living quarters due to his academic tenure. He is the Robert Kent Gooch Professor of Politics and director of the university’s Center for Politics. It’s a prestigious location and it was interesting to learn how the residential honor comes and goes to those living in this “Academical Village.” I’ve long been impressed by the grand architecture at UVA.     Salon & Sei

    I’ve never attended a Salon, have you? I have attended cocktail parties galore and this was reminiscent but with some very interesting folks: writers, artists, architects, attorneys, real estate agents, policy makers, etc. We were instructed by our host that we should remain on topic to discuss the arts, our work and/or politics. For the most part people stayed away from politics as that can be emotional in this town.     Cascade

    I have to say, I was very taken with designer Michelle Brand’s Cascade design. It is made of 600 plastic bottles that have been cut and assembled to form a beautiful sculptural fountain. I love that everyday items can be recycled into art. That’s a lot of water…. I was looking for Irma Thomas’ Blackwater Blues, which I love, but ran across this John Lee Hooker classic called Tupelo, also known as Blackwater Blues.
