That’s Effen for Effen Vodka, which in Dutch means: 1) smooth, 2) even, 3) balanced and cleverly is “a five letter word.” It certainly is but there’s a story to go with it. I will start here with giving them high credit for their branding, which is some of the best I’ve seen. I love the clean, sleek look of their design and the play on words. I even like Effen vodka and it’s now our “house” brand. Kettle One still takes the cake for straight flavor taste — if you like vodka. Typographic Imagery
Continuing with the typographic theme, if you’re into graphic design as I am, here’s a museum for you to check out next time that you’re in New York City, the Herb Lubalin Study Center of Design and Typography. I first learned of this center from Creative Review. I think it might be fun for my son Jackson and I to visit, since we constantly try to guess the typestyle or font used for most everything we see. Brooke Duckart
While searching for artists to hire for the marketing firm representing Effen Vodka, this past year, I found many talented artists. Some of them were located in Milwaulkee, where a couple of the events were to occur. I was immediately enchanted with Brooke Duckart’s artwork, particularly her scratchboard pieces. I found her through her Flickr site. Unfortunately she was in the middle of her own deadlines and was unable to participate at the time.
