    Typographic Mural

    These murals painted at the new Queens Metropolitan Campus in Forest Hills (including Queens Metropolitan High School and the Metropolitan Expeditionary Learning Middle School) in New York by Paula Scher caught my eye as being  graphic, colorful and even having geographic significance when you read all of the wording. See for yourself. It’s a map of Queens and then some. As the artist state: “These works marry my love of painting maps with my love of environmental design,” says Scher. “When the viewer enters the atrium, they have entered the painting.     Wood and Leather Murals

    Happy Labor Day! Are you working? Hope not. Whether you are or are not think how much patience these murals must take to make using unusual materials such as wood and leather. Ed Lantzer, who was 72  years old, worked with small wooden pieces and glued them together to make murals that were on display last year. This article mentions his last exhibit, My Father’s Art, in Evansville, Indiana, before he died of cancer. What a wonderful tribute and accomplishment before his passing.     5th Year Anniversary

    Katrina is not something that I want to remember but it is worth noting that August 29 and the surreal weeks that followed mark the 5th anniversary of “The Storm” that flooded New Orleans. For this year’s anniversary, I thought I’d post fitting artwork by the British Street artist Bansky, who’s mural work just happens to be stenciled on the side of building located on the corner of North Rampart and Kerlerec Streets in New Orleans.
