    Some Church Art

    Happy Boxing Day! Being the Friday after Christmas, I thought these mentions of church art were worth mentioning. St. Peter’s Chanel Church in Roswell, GA is newly constructed and this news story shows the process for how the many stars were painted on the ceiling to replicate the look of early Renaissance fresco techniques. I find it interesting that they used multiple glazes and a colorwash technique to create the blue canopy and metallic paint instead of gilding those stars.     Christmas Trees

    The photos and text (in italics) in this post have been circulating the email network so I can’t take credit and I do not know the original author. However, it’s definitely worth posting because just seeing the photos with their descriptions, helps me get in the Christmas mood, and and I hope it does you as well. I am fascinated how each country displays their Christmas trees differently, and the very artistic takes on some like Murano, Tokyo and Libson.     Christmas Mansion Style

    Art in grandscale can be somewhat ostentatious when it’s so overdone — when it overly exudes with the tremendous and exclusive amount of wealth it took to purchase it. It still captivates our attention, however. Here it is displayed in the decor of  the Vanderbilt Mansion in Hyde Park, New York compete with multiple murals and every surface has some flamboyance. In these thrifty economic times it does’t go over well to be so over the top. I like simplicity and practical things myself.
