    Watering Hole

    I spent Mother's Day writing blog posts, which was relaxing for me. In the process I was able to capture so much activity in my garden. My fountain must be the neighborhood water cooler or watering hole for these backyard birds and an abundance of wildlife. It's not uncommon that there are three or four birds taking dips, drinking and just hanging out. One robin just squats and sits for long periods of time like he's at the pool or more realistically in an outdoor bidet just biding his time observing his surroundings. It's rather funny to see.     Mother’s Day Tribute

    It was a working weekend for me and my husband so I didn’t get to spend Mother’s Day as I would like, plus it’s a bittersweet celebration for me for me to remember from 2 years past — just seems like yesterday. Although, I did get to paint a painting in tribute to my mother. It is after one of the camellias in her New Orleans garden. I think it’s name is Cherries Jubilee — how appropriately Southern.     Seeing this mention of a documentary about “A Man Named Pearl” about Pearl Fryar, a self-taught topiary artist, and a modern-day Edward Scissorhands, got me thinking of the wonderful and magical visits my family and I took to several topiary gardens. Watching the trailer is inspirational, particularly the philosophy of the film, regarding overcoming obstacles. It’s now on my short lists of films to see. The most recent topiary gardens that we visited was Green Animals Topiary Gardens in Portsmouth Rhode Island, my husband’s home state.
