My Favorite Things

Not mine —  but my very talented, and good and fun artist friend, Patsie Uchello and fellow native New Orleanian. My son Jackson, Peter and I recently attended an exhibit/ gallery opening of her work in her exhibit, My Favorite Things, at the Art Square in Leesburg, VA last Friday. This was the inaugural opening of the gallery as well. It’s similar to the Torpedo Factory / Art League here in Alexandria, VA. Patsie shows her work here as well and takes ongoing classes. I’ve enjoyed taking classes at the Art League as well but lately time has not permitted this. Since shells are some of my favorite things, here’s just a sampling of Patsie’s impressive work. More reviews in The Washington Post and a video of the Center’s opening, featuring the divine, Patsie herself. The exhibit is on view through April 3rd.

I wish we had more time to spend at the gallery but after an over-an-hour long drive at rush hour, we arrived later than we had hoped. We had to leave to meet our dinner reservation at Vintage50, a brew pub/ restaurant in Leesburg. Something to do while we were there and it was pretty good. They brew their own beer. The Belgium style was good, as was the Tuna Sashimi Lollipops, not typically my style but Jackson loves sushi and Asian food. The Braised Pork Shank with Sweet Potato Puree was ideal. After two other food posts this week, it seems fitting to post this and give it a thumbs up.

Another interesting exhibit to mention that I recently saw in the newspaper, The G40 Summit, sponsored by Art Whino.

I really like this Leonardo daVinci inspired graffiti portrait. I would think with it would be hard to get this kind of precision with spray paint. There are 2,000 works on view by 500 artists on different floors of an office building in Crystal City, until March 27th.

Since favorite things can also be The Little Things, here it is by Good Charlotte for Friday to Kick Start the Weekend:

I'm an artist, wife and mother of two boys. I started my illustration business, The Occasional Palette over 35 years ago, when my oldest son was an infant. Once my children were in school, I began painting decorative, faux finishes and murals through my second business, Casart, now over 30 years old. My third business, Casart Coverings, is a springboard from my second.
