    Designing for Light

    Back to the Hirshhorn, from yesterday's post. Director, Richard Koshalek, has asked Doug Aitken, a Los Angeles based artist to redesign the museum's bookstore and shop. I was amazed with what he's come up with. He's designed a space that refracts light with mirrored, angled walls. The shop is located in the basement and currently has no natural light. He intends on using a shaft to a window from the floor above as the light source. He came up with the idea based on what he thought books meant to him — "enlightenment."     Trash to Treasure

    The inspiration for this Trash to Treasure post came by way of email and I wish there was a credit, as the pictures are fabulous! The original email mentioned that the origami artist, Won Park, who I wrote about in my last post, was supposed to also live in this truck. He does not.  This truck is more a demonstration of design genius rather than art, but again, design and art are related. You would never think this vehicle is any more than just a typical, everyday trash truck from the outside, but what a treasure on the inside.     Copenhagen

    I’m just now getting a chance to post pictures from my husband’s trip to Copenhagen for the COP15 conference. You’ll see from many of them, except for the inside of the Global Warming Climate Conference, how bitter cold it was outside. His hotel was right near Tivoli, the famous amusement park and gardens: Evidently, eating hot nuts, often found on street stands, is the thing to do in Denmark. Luckily he was able to take an excursion to Helsinger, which is where Kronborg castle also known as Hamlet’s castle, Elsinor, is located. I like how dramatic yet sparsely decorated the interiors are.
