Ice, Ice Baby & Balloon me
These are just a few fun and interesting, newsworthy things worth mentioning. The National Harbor is celebrating the holidays with Christmas on the Potomac with Ice, quite literally. Click here to review the details and link to the video of this winter wonderland, made entirely of ice, complete with an ice slide. It was written up in the Washington Post as well. Not as elaborate as other ice sculpture posts that I’ve written about, and although a bit cheesy, it could be fun. Falling Water in the Fall
I was able to get away for a little respite with my mother at a wonderful Arts and Craft Style Bed & Breakfast called Lake Pointe Inn in McHenry, Maryland. It happens to be right across the road from Wisp Ski Resort. Good to know if I ever go back to ski. It was snowing flurries while we were there. We were able to take a drive to Frank Lloyd Wright’s architectural masterpiece, Falling Water to tour the grounds. A restful spot to enjoy the setting sun during a winter cocktail when we returned.
Visual Acoustics
Visual Acoustics is a new film documentary about the modern architectural photography of Julius Shulman, who died this past summer at age 98. This appears top be an engaging film with the backdrop of the Los Angeles culture, featuring Richard Neutra and Pierre Koenig’s architecture among other connections as Rudolf Schindler, Frank Lloyd Wright, Ed Ruscha, Tom Ford, Frank Gehry and narrated by Dustin Hoffman. I was fascinated how one house, Case Study House No. 22 photographed by Shulman depicted completely different impressions, as described by Philip Kennicott’s Washington Post article, Acoustics honors a master’s modern eye.
