From Dollar to Postcard
I wasn’t aware of Dean Bracy’s concept until recently to put 10,000 one-dollar bills through the banking system in 2000. They all had hand written notes, which is legal to do, on the margins, asking the question, “Where does a dollar go? ” and to send him a postcard telling him about how folks received them. His plan was to use these postcards to create a giant mosaic art piece. As last I read in the Reader’s Digest 2004 story, he had received over 7,400 responses. Aluminum Cans
Consumerism isn’t such a bad thing when art can be produced. Just off the environmental conference theme, here’s a new take on another catchy green idea — recycling. Chris Jordan has reconstructed Seurat’s famous painting, A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte, solely using aluminum cans. Wow, this must have taken some patience. Now I wonder where this detail is located in the larger image? BTW, he’s also taken photos in New Orleans, in the wake of Katrina–uncanny connection.
Poznan
Here are some photos that my husband took at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (also known as COP, Conference of Parties) in Poznan, Poland. This town turned out to be very artsy. A “Christo-like” public-art commentary using figurines to suggest those affected by climate change. Among the contemporary artwork, Poznan maintains its Old World environment and charm. Architecture of the town square clock tower is quite stunning. Everyone comes out to see the goats but heads at the midday hour. Not sure what it all means but some fanciful mural work. I really like these door panels as a possible idea for something similar one day. Inspiration always comes…
