Follow up on FLIK
We attended the FLICK Interactive film festival and exhibit at Art Whino at National Harbor, MD. It was funky but I was pleasantly surprised. We first took a walking tour around National Harbor since my boys and their friend had not been there and then entered the gallery. They were the only three teenagers there and I thought they might feel a bit intimidated but their uniqueness didn’t seem to bother them. The interactive art exhibit reminded me of the tugging heart in my previous Toe Jam post, but there were a couple positive stand outs: the interactive video-screen art, similar to an Etch-and-Sketch by design and the computer motherboard…
Interactive Art
Interactive art can be seen in some of these examples. I appreciate the general philosophy that art is inspired by many things around us and by interacting with daily objects allows us as observers to then participate in artistic creations. In Baltimore’s “Giving Birth to Dreams” Location exhibit that took place in March, 2008, Scion, the car company that partnered with AM Radio to launch the interactive exhibit noted that, “Everything we see around us is inspired by art, but this concept is not always obvious to the masses. Maps & Cosmos
Continuing with the art in science theme there are some artistic and “far-out” pictures to view at the Walters Art Museum in Baltimore. Maps: Finding our Place in the World has already passed, however the pictures can be viewed at this link and Mapping the Cosmos is ongoing through July 27th (seen below). [There are two other exhibits here that look very appealing — Artwork of Sonya Clark, especially her bead work (7/1 – 9/7) and The Special Dead, A Medieval Reliquary Revealed (8/2 – 1/18).] What’s even more cool, however, is that Hubble has it’s own wall mural site, where their images can be downloaded as wall art.
