Summer into Fall
Before I begin this post there are two important announcements: 1) There are just 5 more days to vote for DC’s best undiscovered artist in the Washington Post’s contest, Real Art D.C. — until Oct, 22nd. Vote here. 2) I’ll be posting two posts a week instead of three, at least temporarily — until I can get some help. I’m having to devote more of my time to Casart coverings. We already have an updated website, which I’ve been vigilantly coordinating and just working out a few browser glitches on certain pages. A Show House Across the Lake
My mother attended a Show House recently across Lake Ponchartrain, across from New Orleans. Here are her notes. A recent tour of Southern Living’s Louisiana Idea House yielded some surprises but not many ideas. Southern Living calls Bayou Bend, located in the Terra Bella development outside of Covington, Louisiana, a “quiet cottage”. Granted, its location is quiet, but its size is not what I’d call a cottage. It has 4 bedrooms, a study, mud room, a garage apartment and I didn’t even count the number of baths! Van Gogh in NOLA
Van Gogh’s Café Terrace at Night [in Arles] is the first of his paintings that pops up in an image search. Does that mean it’s popular? I think so but other paintings of his are more well known. When you think of Van Gogh, you think of works like: Starry Night, Sunflowers, Almond Tree Branches, Black Crows in Wheatfield and many, many others. He was quite a prolific painter.
