Thursdays at Twilight
Alright, it’s Friday, but when my mother told me about her latest Thursday at Twilight venture at the New Orleans Botanical Gardens in City Park, I just had to write about it. This is an ongoing concert series that she and many other New Orleanians of all backgrounds attend. It’s a beautiful spot too. Last Thursday was Motown. It was sold out. She and her friends (all @ 70+ and many have lost their husbands) got up to dance. There were whites, blacks, old and young, wealthy and middle class people there all enjoying a good time. All dancing and sharing mint juleps. I asked her, “Where were the reporters?”…

My Favorite Things
Not mine — but my very talented, and good and fun artist friend, Patsie Uchello and fellow native New Orleanian. My son Jackson, Peter and I recently attended an exhibit/ gallery opening of her work in her exhibit, My Favorite Things, at the Art Square in Leesburg, VA last Friday. This was the inaugural opening of the gallery as well. It’s similar to the Torpedo Factory / Art League here in Alexandria, VA. Patsie shows her work here as well and takes ongoing classes. Rainbow Wood
When I saw this picture of striped, rainbow-colored, wooden bowls in my April issue of House Beautiful magazine, I was immediately reminded that I have a similarly designed coffee spoon that I use everyday, thanks to Aunt Sue. I never really thought of it artistically but its design is just that and a woodcraft artisan must have made it. Again, art and design, in this case functional art, combined. That’s my philosophy and I’m sticking with it. How lovely these rainbow-wood designs are. Now I’d like to get the bowls. They are found at whisknyc.com ($6 for a 3″ bowl).
