I’m still in New York for business so no big post, but something to appropriately Kick-Start the Weekend with The Manhattan Transfer (and it kinda goes with the dress up theme of Halloween). Bicycle Diaries
I’m trying to get more exercise but won’t be biking long distance. Therein this book, Bicycle Diaries, by David Byrne of Talking Heads fame attracted my attention. Little did I know he was such a bicycling fan or that he had toured many cities this way. Very inspirational, if not vicariously. I’ll have to get it because it describes his appreciation for architecture and bike-friendliness through all the various towns he visited. Just like walking as opposed to driving, you get a different perspective this way. True Blood
I’m a big True Blood fan, the HBO series. I didn’t think I would be but it grabbed me from the opening movie. I recently came upon this Wiredrive website explaining the art of the main title design and exploring process of creating the opening title by Digital Kitchen. The font was based on Southern roadside signage. The swamp and other scenes were filmed directly in Louisiana. Church scenes were filmed in Chicago and the the bar scenes were filmed in Seattle. It all comes together beautifully. I find it brilliant the way they have have been able to mix themes of death, ruin and rebirth. I can’t help but…
