5th Year Anniversary
Katrina is not something that I want to remember but it is worth noting that August 29 and the surreal weeks that followed mark the 5th anniversary of “The Storm” that flooded New Orleans. For this year’s anniversary, I thought I’d post fitting artwork by the British Street artist Bansky, who’s mural work just happens to be stenciled on the side of building located on the corner of North Rampart and Kerlerec Streets in New Orleans. Newly Discovered
While I was in Rhode Island last week, a coincidental discovery occurred — just in time for me to insert into the Monday Mural posts. Lost or forgotten murals at University of RI (URI) were recently discovered behind dry wall that was installed during a renovation in Edward’s Hall. They were painted in the 1940’s by Gino Conti as part of the Federal WPA effort (Works Projects Administration, during the Depression to help artists have income.
