    Real Art DC Contest

    There is a call for the Washington area's best aspiring artists to upload their work at washingtonpost.com/museums to be featured in a new posting, With Real Art DC, regarding canvassing the  local neighborhoods for aspiring artists. Contest Rules. Expiration for entry is September 30, 2010. There are so many entries (1,652 at the time of this posting) that I almost had to stop reviewing but when I got past 1,000, I figured I could get through them all.     Watering Hole

    I spent Mother's Day writing blog posts, which was relaxing for me. In the process I was able to capture so much activity in my garden. My fountain must be the neighborhood water cooler or watering hole for these backyard birds and an abundance of wildlife. It's not uncommon that there are three or four birds taking dips, drinking and just hanging out. One robin just squats and sits for long periods of time like he's at the pool or more realistically in an outdoor bidet just biding his time observing his surroundings. It's rather funny to see.     Oil Spill

    As news of the BP oil spill off the coast of Louisiana became more severe, I have become more worried about the impact — both environmentally and economically. These folks have just gotten back on their feet since Katrina. It just seems like they have a magnet for bad blows. This however, could impact the entire nation's seafood industry as well as the eco-system in the wetlands for years to come. This makes me sad but hopeful that this is not the case.
