Pottery
The boys are back! It’s hard to find time to post, especially after completing two projects in the last two weeks, traveling and trying to get a new product line started. Their schedules or lack there of have set me behind. Consequently, I’m using some of Jackson’s amazing artwork to post. These pots of his were featured in the student gallery exhibit during the final weekend of his school. We’re trying to get him to throw an entire set for us. I really like their coloration and design and I appreciate how difficult they were to create.
Knoxville
Traveling from Sewanee, TN to Alexandria, VA takes close to 11 hours. We decided to take an overnight pit-stop in Knoxville, TN to break up the drive on the way back home. We stayed in a contemporary hotel overlooking World Fair Park. The town was pretty quiet (maybe due to the holiday) but very pleasant. There were a lot of artistic things to see: The World Fair Tower, amphitheater, Bellagio-like fountains, pocket art parks near Market Street and surprising sculptures right in the heart of downtown. Memorial Day Portraits
Although I was traveling on Memorial Day, I wanted to mention one moving exhibit that I still think of every time this year. Two years ago our family ventured to Arlington Cemetery to view the art exhibit, The Faces of the Fallen, portraits of fallen soldiers from the Afghanistan and Iraq wars, during October 10, 2001 – November 11, 2004. Over 200 artists were involved and paid tribute by painting, drawing and or sculpting their portraits on 6″ x 8″ canvases and other media. They were all displayed one next to the other in endless rows, ordered by timing of their death. It served as a memorial for two years…
