    Although computer technology has completely transformed aspects of my business, with digital manipulation of hand painted artwork and designs, I am cognizant that the roots of what I create falls to creativity and hand applied method of drawing and painting.     Framing Design

    This is the way I view art sometimes — as practical design. I view design as a subcategory of an overall umbrella description of art that in this case can be enjoyed and serves as a practical purpose. I’m a decorative finisher with a background in Art History, so when I go into a museum to view masterful artwork, I am always looking at the walls and the over all exhibition design.     Think Outside of the Airport!

    When I first saw this image in the Washington Post, I thought these were modern-day, Egyptian Hieroglyphs, but no, they are the architectural diagrams of airport terminals. This is something I have seen but take for granted every time I fly. However, I thought this was so creative to recognize that these airport silhouettes could be conceived as artistic designs. Charles Cohan, a printmaker and art professor in Hawaii, who travels quite a bit, noticed these shapes in the back of many airline magazines. He’s collected 62 and has made 90 plates.
