Optical Illusions
I loved this post from the Crooked Brains Blog regarding illusions. What a creative way to take pictures. I thought it fitting after September 11th to post this picture, originally by Michael Hughes in 1999 of the Twin Towers as depicted in a postcard that is transposed over what is no longer there — before they collapsed. Check out the art archives for more interesting photos that will wow you — especially that cork mural. NOW I know what to do with all those corks that I’ve been saving.
Art in Advertising & Fingerprints
I had been looking for information regarding the Library of Congress ads that I had seen way back in May, wrapped around the pillars in the DC Metro, and I finally found it on their blog. Who knew they’d be so “with it!” I thought this was a clever use of art in advertising and a great advertising campaign. Evidently the Washington Post thought so too and wrote about it back in April, in which the Library received much deserved, “earned” media attention. What a bonus. Interactive Art
Interactive art can be seen in some of these examples. I appreciate the general philosophy that art is inspired by many things around us and by interacting with daily objects allows us as observers to then participate in artistic creations. In Baltimore’s “Giving Birth to Dreams” Location exhibit that took place in March, 2008, Scion, the car company that partnered with AM Radio to launch the interactive exhibit noted that, “Everything we see around us is inspired by art, but this concept is not always obvious to the masses.
