    The Physics of Origami

    I’ve already written a post on origami, featuring Dr. Robert Lang, but he was profiled recently in The Washington Post, and Rachel Saslow’s article, When Origami Meets Rocket Science, was so informative, I thought I’d do a follow up. At 49 he’s the quintessential origami master. He quit his career as a laser physicist and semiconductor laser and fiber-optic researcher while working for NASA in their Jet Propulsion Laboratory. As if these professions weren’t “heady” enough and lucrative once going into private technology in Silicon Valley, he decided to give it all up for paper folding.     Flowers in Abundance

    Art in Bloom can also be seen in the New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA’s) exhibit pairing flower arrangements as art in front of paintings from which they were inspired. The exhibit is appropriately called Art in Bloom. Here are just a couple of examples, one with my favorite painting at NOMA.     My Favorite Things

    Not mine —  but my very talented, and good and fun artist friend, Patsie Uchello and fellow native New Orleanian. My son Jackson, Peter and I recently attended an exhibit/ gallery opening of her work in her exhibit, My Favorite Things, at the Art Square in Leesburg, VA last Friday. This was the inaugural opening of the gallery as well. It’s similar to the Torpedo Factory / Art League here in Alexandria, VA. Patsie shows her work here as well and takes ongoing classes. I’ve enjoyed taking classes at the Art League as well but lately time has not permitted this. Since shells are some of my favorite things, here’s…
