Murals
Robert Dafford
Robert Dafford, born in 1951, has been doing murals for more than 30 years. He studied art at the University of Louisiana in Lafayette and interrupted his art work to serve three years as a naval illustrator and draftsman during the Vietnam War. His first mural was a rainbow trout painted in 1969 for a fish market. He now has painted nearly 300 murals around the world. Several are in New Orleans. One prominent location is on the corner of Girod and Magazine streets. This depicts a horse-drawn coffee wagon of the Reilly Coffee Company. Another striking mural is the 150 foot tall clarinet on the side of the Holiday…
Contemporary Chicken
I’m still trying to figure this one out. Since I like chickens, I’ll post about Koen Vanmechelen’s contemporary Chicken Project exhibit at Connor Contemporary Art through December 31st. I guess I don’t get the contemporary art part except for it’s sparseness in style and explanation. I was more drawn to the Belgian artist’s chicken illustrations, which I thought were quite interesting. Floodwater Walls
I had posted on some similar murals near Roeblings Bridge in Madison County, KY but hadn’t seen these Jeffersonville Floodwater wall murals. They could be the same? Who knew floodwater walls could be so beautiful, as these are in Louisville, KY, and as seen on Broken Sidewalk: These are all beautifully painted. The detail is exceptional and exquisite. Here’s another view of the Roeblings Bridge Murals from Midwest Guest. My guess is they are different murals (see arches) and different locations but painted by the same mural company. Clarifications are welcome.
