Painted Cakes & CityZen
I wish I was a food writer so I could describe the most incredibly delectable meal my husband and I experienced at CityZen at the Mandarin Hotel. It was pure food-as-art perfection, even with the sea urchin, which I can happily say I’ve braved that but won’t be having again. What Chef Eric Ziebold did with it was extraordinary, serving it with a garlic flavored flan that was divine, but even though it looked cooked, the texture was so slimy that I thought I had eaten something on the Survivor challenge and passed. When discussing this with our waitress, it was confirmed that we should have chopped it up and…

There’s lots of snow going around. A music link to Patricia Snyder’s Snowbound to Kick Start Your Weekend, as we’ll be digging out: http://patriciasnydermusic.com/audio/snyder-snowbound-02.mp3 I don’t know about you, but I’d rather be skiing during this blizzard: Here’s an art opportunity that I wanted to mention before it’s too late. The City of Seattle is looking for artists to paint murals on 46th Street. Click on this Fremont Universe link for details. Applications are due by February 19th.
The Good Life
Feeling a little nostalgic when I ran across this, I think this is a nice compilation of classic entertainment scenes to the music, The Good Life by Tony Bennett but also sung by Frank Sinatra. However I don’t think it is either of these singing this version. If you want a more bluesy, modern version to Kick-Start Your Weekend I’d go with Love and Happiness, originally by Al Green but sung here by Marc Broussard. Home, is my favorite of his songs. He’s an incredibly soulful singer and really kicks it out toward the end of this.
