Murals that Teach
Finding murals that teach something and last long beyond their time, literally that is, with vines that are meant to grow on top is a very admirable thing. I was first taken with this picture for a mural with components that can be removed. Then, I was even more struck by how this mural in Windsor, Canada is part of an ongoing program with federal grant money and help from local artists to help train the unemployed or underemployed who have artistic aspirations. 9•11•9th
The 9th anniversary of September 11 (9/11/01) was remembered this weekend. As I write this, I am nervous because both my husband and my oldest son, Piers, are traveling on 9•9•9 (September (9th month), 9, 9th anniversary of 9/11). I wouldn’t put it past the terrorists to use this date to their advantage. Fortunately, they arrived safely and have returned from a UVA vs. USC game, where they were the only orange hats in a sea of maroon. It’s hard for me to believe that it has already been nine years. Popup Art
Did I mention that I love popup books? I think I did. Peter, my husband, and I were able to finally see the Paper Engineering exhibit at the National Museum of American Art before it closed. I mentioned it in a recent post. I was fascinated with the history of popups and the terminology. Peter had his Pavlov Dog “tired” expression on the minute that we entered the museum…..(He wasn’t that way with Chuck Close, however.) I don’t think I’ll take him to If You could Read my Pins….
