    Sequoia

    Sequoia has many meanings. It mostly calls to mind the beautiful Redwood Trees in sunny California, the state from which my husband and oldest son just returned. This is also the tree that my father-in-law has growing in his front yard. Needless to say, it is the largest tree on the street, if not in the beach area and may soon be the largest (because it’s still growing), if not only Sequoia, in Rhode Island.     Brooke Duckart

    While searching for artists to hire for the marketing firm representing Effen Vodka, this past year, I found many talented artists. Some of them were located in Milwaulkee, where a couple of the events were to occur. I was immediately enchanted with Brooke Duckart’s artwork, particularly her scratchboard pieces. I found her through her Flickr site. Unfortunately she was in the middle of her own deadlines and was unable to participate at the time.     9•11•9th

    The 9th anniversary of September 11 (9/11/01) was remembered this weekend. As I write this, I am nervous because both my husband and my oldest son, Piers, are traveling on 9•9•9 (September (9th month), 9, 9th anniversary of 9/11). I wouldn’t put it past the terrorists to use this date to their advantage. Fortunately, they arrived safely and have returned from a UVA vs. USC game, where they were the only orange hats in a sea of maroon. It’s hard for me to believe that it has already been nine years.
