    Joseph Cornell

    Collecting things reminds me of Joseph Cornell (1903–1972). An artist known in the 1930’s for assembling his many collections into miniature and large scale dioramas, which were like mini sculptures. I really like his work and saw the Smithsonian’s exhibit, Navigating the Imagination dedicated to him in February 2007.     Scrapbooks

    As I read in the Washington Post Book World about a new book on Scrapbooking, I was reminded of how this creative pastime is much like a visual diary. As much as moleskin notebooks can be used for sketching and collecting memories, they, as well as other blank-sheet note books, can be used for the visual keepsake of scrapbooking.     Traditional Sketches

    After my last two posts on typewriter and computer art, I thought it would be wise to go back to the root — traditional sketches. As much as computer art can create something new from an original, you need the original first.
